Could it be ordinary that a father will not remember all of his children particularly when there are just 8 of them? What sort of spiritual amnesia or dementia would have deprived Jesse of the accurate use of his memory such that he could not even remember that He had a son left in the wilderness in danger of wild beasts, cattle rustlers, armed bandits, and all manner of evil?
Would it have been normal for Jesse to have forgotten David his son who was in charge of his profitable business? I can only imagine that the household cabal and mafia had ganged up and prepared themselves to take on his mantle and his anointing. David would have returned home to serve and rejoice with an Eliab who had cornered his anointing?
The seven sons of Jesse lined up and presented themselves before Samuel the prophet of God. They stood as though the eight-person (David) who the anointing was originally intended for never existed. Hmmmmmmm, may you not be absent on the day of your crowning. May no one else take your place in destiny. May those sent by God to locate you not be misguided and misdirected by empty people whose deceptive outlook can be misleading even for the greatest prophets. May your labour in the secret place speak for you in the open.
