Hello listeners! This week I have guest, Angela Todd in the show. Angela describes herself as a person who’s done at all, but not in a good way.  She’s been through fertility treatments, a spousal separation, two pre-term births and child loss; just to list a few.

During this conversation, Angela and I talk about how we as special needs moms cannot be the only ones talking about the struggles we’re having and how we need more of a place and a voice in today’s world.

We also talk about trauma. Angela discusses it the way a friend has told her, in referencing PTSD, thereare “big T” traumas that explodes like a diagnosis or other large event in our life. There are also “little t” traumas that erode like pandemics, eating struggles, school struggles; daily things that weigh on top of the already hard circumstances.

As an Archivist and historian, it is very important to Angela that we find a way to tell the stories of our children, especially our special needs children. She says that they often don’t meet recordable life milestones such as getting married, having real jobs, having children etc. We have to find a way to share their story and preserve it for the future. We also have to find a way to share our stories as mothers, because there is so much more that we did before we had children and what we do now for our children than meets the eye.  I hope you enjoyed this episode and I hope to have Angela back for more in the future.
