Renowned Indigenous Changemaker, Joleen Mitton (Miskinahk), is leading the way through a combination of fashion, youth work, and basketball. As a producer and social architect, her work is all about celebrating and making visible Indigenous peoples at a high level in media arts, culture, community, land-based wisdom, and the global market.
Having worked as a model for almost two decades, we hear Joleen discuss her reasons for cofounding Supernaturals modeling agency aswell as 'Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week'; showcasing clothing designed by local Indigenous Designers, worn by models of First Nation/Metis and Inuit descent.
In this interview, we hear Joleen talk about her mission to improve the lives of people in her community through projects and programs such as the Indigenous Urban Butterflies Day Camp, a program for children in foster care. As well as the importance sports plays in her life as an active member of All My Relations women's basketball team (AMR).
Big love to our host for this episode, Cyd Eva of Pattern Nation Fashion Brand. Tune in to hear these two fashionistas discuss the importance of decolonizing culture and the ways we can embrace our Sassy sides.
