How to Build a Strong Marriage
1. Think biblically about marriage.
-The ultimate purpose of marriage is giving God the glory. God is most glorified when the covenant is honored.
-When God is not glorified in a relationship, the focus shifts. It becomes the shift to “My needs, my happiness and my glory.” The focus becomes self.
-Anytime we are glorifying self, that is not biblical.
-Challenge: The next time you are tempted to make a self-serving or self-glorifying decision without having a conversation with your spouse, ask yourself if you are glorifying God or self?
2. One of the greatest threats of any marriage is losing a teachable heart.
-When was the last time you asked your spouse to forgive you for something you were clearly in the wrong about?
- We are losing apologies.
3. Purity
-Are you pure? Are your thoughts pure? Is your heart pure? Is your communication with your spouse pure?
-These answers affect all aspects of your marriage.
-If you ever need time to come and talk to the pastor, to just have a pastoral ear, you and your spouse know that I have an open door policy. It is a safe place to share where you pastor will listen and pray for you. It remains confidential.
-All couples can benefit from a recommitment.
