Sermon Notes:

Lesson 1

Jesus teachings remain the same

To love God

To love Neighbor

To forgive

To care for the sick

To visit those in prison

To provide for the least of these

To repent and believe the gospel

Lesson 2

When your heart burns for the Lord, pay attention to that.

We knew they were upset – they had heard that Jesus rose, but they still had a doubt. This was a first for them.

When they understood and had the encounter with Jesus, doubt turned to belief. Sadness turned to joy and confusion turned to clarity. These principles apply to us today.

Lesson 3

We can walk down the Emmaus road forever meaning we can always chase the next big thing, conform or surrender to society’s standard running away from any accountability to God. We have a choice to do that, but if we are always running in the opposite way that God calls us to, that comes at a price. If we continue down that road distracted, then we will always continue to live in a state of despair, confusion and fear.  This kind of living is a reality where evil will always have the last word and where death is always the end of life.

You can use the Emmaus road as a teaching tool from Jesus Christ himself, meaning we can hear his word, ask God to open our ears and heart daily to your word and its truth, and light a fire within us. Then you will be tasked to share the Good News.

Society will always want you to conform to their agenda. When you don’t, you get labeled as a bad, evil or bigoted person. That is bad news and it is unfortunate that Christians are turning on each other and playing a blame game against each other. It divides and disrupts the gospel message.
