Description

The very first Olympic games was held in the year 776 BCE. And one of the first champions of these games was involved in starting a great war between Sparta and Messenia, that saw the enslavement of an entire group of people, and the rise of the military Spartans. This episode also covers the foundation of the Polis Byzantium, which went on to become one of the most relevant cities in the world for more than 2000 years.

The History of Modern Greece Podcast covers the events from Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, and the fall of Constantinople in 1453, to the years under the Ottoman Empire, and 1821 when the Greeks fought for independence... all the way to the modern-day.
