May 31, 2026 Sunday Morning.

This is not Elijah, but this prophet performed more miracles than Elijah or any other in the Old Testament, with the possible exception of Moses.

Read the Story

The big takeaway from this is YOU CAN DO WHAT ELISHA DID! Miracles! The Bible is a book of miracles, because it is the book about God, and the God of the Bible is the Good of miracles. Elisha did 21 miracles: he raised the dead: (2 Kings 4:35), multiplied food (4:43), and healed a leper (5:15). Besides that, he did one after he had died (2Kings 13:21). Jesus the Son of Man did many more miracles. The Book of Acts is full of miracles and so is church history until this very day. We have the weapon of prayer because Elijah did many miracles and all in answer to prayer (Jas.5:17-18)

How so? What has his story got to do with Christians living in the 21st Century? Well, we live under the New and better Covenant. We need to know this as we make our way through the Old Testament. (Testament is a testimony to the covenant.) These stories are full of miracles, all produced by the power of the Holy Spirit through faith in the name of Jehovah, the covenant name of God which comes to us by the name of Jesus, which means Jehovah Saves. David killed Goliath and won all his many victories after he was anointed by the Holy Spirit. Elisha did all his miracles after he received a double portion of the Spirit that was upon Elijah (2Ki.2:15). What do these stories have to do with we who live in New Testament times?

These O.T. miracles are mostly isolated events performed by carefully selected prophets, kings, and priests. You have a Moses turning water into blood and an Elisha blinding and capturing an entire enemy army. But in the N.C. the Spirit doesn’t just come upon isolated individuals every few hundred years; He comes upon “all flesh.” (Acts 2:17) What was reserved for special leaders under the O.C. is now given to every believer under the N.C.

Think of Jesus’ teaching in John about the Seed being planted and dying, which speaks of Him dying and being planted in the earth and rising, and along with Him a multitude with the same life and power He had, to do the same things He did. He said so (Jn.14:12). Plant a grain of corn and you reap many grains of corn – identical to the one that was planted. In salvation, you are the harvest of that one holy Seed (Jesus) with the identical qualities of that original Seed. You can do what He did. He said so (Mk.16:17-18). If you die to yourself you can produce the same results as that Seed; if you, like that Seed, are filled with the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit that came upon Elisha in the O.T. is the same Spirit who came upon believers in the N.T. Therefore we are equipped to do the same things Elisha did, and more! The Spirit that came at Pentecost changed everything with the words “all flesh.” We are being transformed into the same image as Elisha. No! We are being transformed into the image of Jesus, not Elisha!!! Christ died as the Seed and rose again, and poured out His Spirit to produce a redeemed seed (people) who are like Him (Gen.1:26-27; Rm.8:29).

When we read or teach these O.T. stories to the kids and others, don’t just leave them with wonderful stories of days gone by, with some moral values and lessons thrown in. David helped his dad on the farm and God saw his faithfulness and promoted him to help God; David used what he had (a sling); David laid his life on the line for something greater than himself, and so forth. We are living in N.T. times, under the New Covenant of grace! The same Spirit who came upon David to bring giants down, comes upon us to defeat our enemies and the enemies of our land, spiritual enemies who are destroying people’s lives and homes. Students and teachers are you getting this? You are called to share the gospel, the full gospel with everyone.

God is raising up believers in this generation who are getting a hold of this and we will fill our county, state, and nation with the salvation of God, the fullness of the Spirit, and miracles such as salvation and healings and deliverances. I believe that. Do you believe that? Then let us rise up, receive the baptism with the Spirit and begin to preach the gospel with the demonstration of the Spirit and power to God, to turn the world upside down like they did in the Book of Acts.
