QUOTES
“I have been told that, based on where the stroke happened in my brain, I am a miracle. I could or should still be bedridden.”
“Overall it’s been a long and hard road. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of family and friends.”
On things that came out of the tragedy: “Being able to enjoy life and everything that comes with it. Before my stroke, I was on autopilot; running from one obligation to another. Now I am a lot more mindful of my experiences.”
“Look at your situation and find things you can control. Focus on those things. Pick yourself up and move forward.”
“We all have setbacks. Mine was just bigger than most. It’s how we move forward from those setbacks that matters.”
“I was able to go back to work 6 months after my stroke.”
“You don’t really realize how much you impact other people until something like this happens.”
On her efforts within the STEM field: “Introducing high school students to STEM is really where we need to start.”
On her school board work: “What I really like about this school district; preparing kids for life not just for college. Giving them many opportunities to see what they would like to do; individualizing for each child. Not expecting them all to go down one path.”
Mentoring and career advice: “Own your career. Too many times, as females, we think our talents will be noticed. But we really need to own our career and direct it where we want it to go.”
