Should you give up on people when they sin? Does God? They may be tempted to give up on themselves, but when Samuel admonished the Israelites for wanting a king, he took a different approach.
"You have sinned," he said, "but get right with the Lord and do not turn aside from following Him!" Turning aside now would add one sin on top of another. That second sin can be worse than the first, for it can cause our spiritual momentum to go in the wrong direction. It makes committing a third and fourth sin that much easier.
