In this homily given at St Pat's on February 19, 2023, Fr Mathias expounds on what is likely Jesus' most radical and difficult moral teaching: loving our enemies. It is precisely in loving our enemies that will cause us to stick out in the world and that's what he wants. The true measure of our love is not how much we loved those who loved us, but how much we loved those who do evil to us and set themselves against us. The call to holiness is high and can be received well when we remember that when we made ourselves enemies of God by rebelling against his love, he chose not to destroy us but to love us and take our destruction against himself so we can live. At the end of the homily, Father exhorts parishioners to pray to stick out in the world and imitate Jesus so that we would live as children of our loving Father.
