In this homily given at St. Patrick's on January 1st, 2023, Dcn. Patrick McDonald speaks about the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God that we celebrate today which is the oldest Marian feast day.
He reminds us of the great example Mary gives to us in her "Yes" to God, and how even though Mary had faith in God when she gave her assent, there is no way she could have completely understood the extent of it at that time. Rather, each step of the way through Jesus's public ministry, crucifixion, and death, she had to reassert that "Yes" of the Annunciation even more deeply. The same goes for us -- when we say "Yes" to our Lord, it is not a one time "Yes", but it is a daily reaffirming of "Thy Will be Done."
