The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also called the FAFSA is the primary application used by US colleges to determine eligibility for Federal, State and institutional grants, loans, work study and sometimes even scholarships. Learn important dates and timelines as well as tips for preparing for and completing the FAFSA, typically due by March 2 at California colleges. We will cover the top income and asset reporting mistakes families make when applying for financial aid and what happens after you complete the FAFSA. 30% of all FAFSA applicants will be selected for verification – we will explain what verification is and what to do if you are selected. For those of you looking at private colleges, we will also talk about the College Boards CSS Profile.
