Information that is compartmentalized into disciplines and sections needs to be retained by memorization. But when wisdom is systemically integrated, engaging with any one part of the system automatically activates other parts and facilitates the ongoing dynamic of engagement with the whole. Torah is such a system, which is why Rav Itzchak bar Yoseif's reliability is questioned despite his efforts to retain information. Torah is not a database of information. It is a living source of energetic wisdom that constantly evolves.
