This week my guest is Stacey Abate. Since becoming a grants professional in 1997, Stacey Abate has raised over $60 million from all types of foundations and government agencies. Stacey is a staff writer for RWJBarnabas Health, has had her own grants consulting firm since 2000, and was the founding President of the Grant Professionals Association, NJ Chapter. Stacey joined Rutgers University to teach grant writing and share her expertise with the next generation of non-profit professionals. Prior to grant writing, she was an interpreter and teacher of the deaf.
Grant writing was something that found Stacey. She taught after college in a pre-school, but she quickly realized that she would not reach the trajectory she was hoping for if she stayed in that space. She was a teacher of the deaf for a year in Australia in the 90's. Stacey has such a great story to tell and has lived in some amazing places.
This changemaker is on a mission to help non-profit organizations continue to fund their programming so that they can support those who need their services. You can tell immediately how passionate she is to help the next generation when she speaks about teaching her grant writing classes.
We discuss the process of grant writing and Stacey shares information about how some grants are graded and reviewed. The process is daunting as she has sat on both sides, writing the grant and also has had the opportunity to review and grade them.
Stacey is helping to lead a grant process for Today is the Day, as we embark on providing two non-profits in 2023 with a donation to continue to make change in their community. Today is the Day is grateful to Stacey for leading this process.
