Description

Pastor Paul Bailey, speaking on the Modern Pew Podcast, delivered a sermon titled “Foolishness of Babel,” drawing inspiration from Genesis 11:1-5. In his address, he revisited the biblical account of the Tower of Babel, where humanity, united by one language, set out to build a tower reaching to heaven in an effort to make a name for themselves and avoid dispersion. Pastor Bailey noted that the builders’ ambition might have been driven by a desire for self-preservation after the flood, rather than a reliance on God’s promise. He observed that the people were constructing a monument for their own security, an endeavor that symbolized a rejection of God’s guidance.

Drawing a parallel to modern times, Pastor Bailey warned that many believers risk repeating this ancient error by developing personal doctrines and systems influenced by worldly philosophies. He stressed that, like the builders at Babel, contemporary society often prioritizes human ingenuity over divine instruction, leading to a distortion of the gospel message. According to Bailey, the foundational truths of the early church have been gradually buried under layers of compromise and cultural redefinition.

The sermon challenged listeners to critically examine their own spiritual journeys. Pastor Bailey urged them to reclaim the unadulterated message of salvation and to resist the temptation to conform to the shifting standards of the world. He called on believers to earnestly contend for the faith, digging out the ancient wells of truth that once nourished the early church. His message is a powerful call to return to God’s original blueprint for faith—a blueprint built on the unchanging Word of God rather than on human ambition.
