In November of 2021 the province of British Columbia was hammered with two unprecedented weather events. These “atmospheric rivers” resulted in severe flooding, landslides and catastrophic damage to critical rail and highway infrastructure that effectively sealed off Metro Vancouver from the rest of Canada.
This episode features Constable Erich Schmidt, an off duty police officer who was pressed into service following mudslides that stranded him and hundreds of other motorists; and, Dave Slatten, a volunteer search and rescue technician with the Central Fraser Valley Search and Rescue Team, who took time away from work for days so he could help rescue families trapped by rising flood waters.
This is part 1 of Stories from the Flood Line.
