Description

When we are adults, we make the conscious decision to emigrate. But what happens when we are parents, and we take our children with us?

Our guest Claudia Lopez emigrated to the UK from Colombia when she was only 11 years old. She was able to experience firsthand the challenges that children have to overcome when migrating.

Today, we will have the opportunity to listen to the point of view of what a child lives in these circumstances, dealing with not only the language barrier but with the new world to which they have to adapt.

There are millions of people calling the country to which they migrated home. So, talking about diversity has become the norm.

One day before the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, I want to dedicate this episode to all Hispanics who decided to live the experience of being an immigrant and make their culture known. Thank you for enriching the cultures of each country with yours!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS.

Proudly Latina. Claudia was born in Colombia and moved to the UK. With the challenge of adapting to a new culture and language, she was able to do it successfully. Now she is a teacher of additional languages who loves helping the First Gen immigrants to believe in themselves.

As a teacher, Claudia was able to see a common factor of children who move out to a country for the first time; they do not want to be there.

When we take children to live in a different country, it will be challenging to find an identity. Some kids don't feel they belong to the land they live cause inside their homes, living with their immigrants parents is like living in a completely different world.

Communicating with our children is essential in the process of adaptation.

First is the acceptance of our origins and then the education of others about them.

There are different experiences. An adult can understand why but children can see it as a challenging moment in their life.
