Today’s shift is this, start talking to yourself like you would talk to someone to love.
There are two implications to this saying. The first is about giving yourself patience, grace, and kindness. We are so harsh to ourselves. So quick to judge ourselves. So quick to call ourselves names we would never DARE call our parents or best friends. We berate ourselves for small, incidental errors, and more often then not, the way we punish ourselves (verbally and emotionally) very rarely fits the crime. We give ourselves lashings that would make our best friends’ heads spin. And If we ever spoke to them like that, they’d leave us. So why do WE tolerate speaking to ourselves like that? Not just tolerate, but we repeatedly do it!
Point number 2, if your best friend told you that she or he had a goal. A big hair audacious goal... something they really wanted... would you let them off the hook easy if they were sabotaging themselves? If your girl came to you, day in and day out, literally all she could talk about was how important her wedding day is to her and how badly she wants to look confident in her dress... wouldn’t you be the one waking her butt up at 5am for the gym? And slapping that serving of nachos out of her hand? Of course you would! Because that’s what best friends do. That’s what supportive friends do.
So how come you don’t talk to yourself like your best friend? How come you’re not waking yourself up at 5 or slapping the nachos out of your own hands? You want your goals, right? You want the confidence, the self esteem, the body, the self worth...
Sometimes it’s easier to support and cheer on someone else than it is to take care of yourself and make YOU the priority. But again... talk to yourself like you’d talk to her.
Want your goals as badly for yourself as you want them for your loved ones.
