Description

A Divine Love Affair, with Rev. Brian Heron. Series: Standalone Services A Spacious Christianity, First Presbyterian Church of Bend, Oregon. Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8; John 10: 30-38.

Rev. Brian Heron, Presbyter for Vision and Mission for the Presbytery of the Cascades and Guest Pastor reflects that Jesus said, “I and the Father are one”. This language mirrors the ancient mystics who spoke of being “in love” with God, rather than a moral imperative to love God. How does it change our faith and our experience of life to have a love affair with God? Does this tie our Christian texts to some emerging forms of spiritual expression growing in our communities? Much of the “spiritual but not religious” expression looks very much like ancient Christian mysticism. Might we be able to build a bridge between our tradition and emerging spirituality?

At First Presbyterian, you will meet people at many different places theologically and spiritually. And we love it that way. We want to be a place where our diversity brings us together and where conversation takes us all deeper in our understanding of God.

We call this kind of faith “Spacious Christianity.” We don’t ask anyone to sign creeds or statements of belief. The life of faith is about a way of being in the world and a faith that shows itself in love.
