The Mud March with (Tyler McGraw)

In this episode of American Civil War & UK History, Podcast host Daz was joined by The Unfiltered Historian Tyler McGraw to discuss The Mud March.

In January 1863, Union General Ambrose Burnside attempted to outflank Robert E. Lee by moving the Army of the Potomac across the Rappahannock River. Torrential rain turned the roads into deep mud, leaving soldiers, artillery, and wagons hopelessly stuck. After four miserable days and no fighting, Burnside called off the operation. The failed march crushed Union morale and led to Burnside’s removal from command, replaced by Joseph Hooker.
