In Christian culture today, the definition of a disciple of Jesus Christ has been blurred and diluted. When asked if people thought a disciple and a Christian were the same thing, the responses were varied. Some were crystal clear that a disciple and a Christian, are different and some believed that they were the same or should be the same. What is Jesus’ perspective on the subject? Christian is the dominant label we use to identify people who believe in Jesus, but like the question, “which came first the chicken or the egg”? The term Christian came after the term disciple, Acts 11:26. Jesus identified his followers as disciples. God’s intention is that everyone that comes to Jesus, be transformed to act like Jesus. In this study we will look at some tools that will help us grow into the image of Christ: The essentials of the word of God, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, accountable relationships and spiritual disciplines.
