Description

Andy is Associate Director Global Partnerships at Tent Partnerships for Refugees based in Germany.

Prior to moving into the not for profit sector, he had an international automotive career that included roles with Volkswagen, Sixt, Alphabet, and BMW Financial Services and led to him founding his own consultancy, Mobility-biz in 2011. He has lived and worked in Germany, the Czech Republic, China and France and studied in Germany and the United States.

In sharing his story, Andy talks about designing his own management training programme at Volkswagen Financial Services, the pace and agility of the family business that is Sixt, helping to develop Alphabet's international reach in its earliest days, going to China in 2005 to set up BMW Financial Services, and the different challenge that comes with being responsible for a mature business compared to a start up. He also shares about his decision to leave the corporate world, initially to set up his own business and then the struggle he had to break into the not for profit sector once he realised that is what he wanted to do.

I've known Andy for 20 years since we worked together in the early years of Alphabet. I admired him then and enjoyed his company immensely. He inspired and encouraged me to pursue an international career myself. I hope that you enjoy hearing how he navigated his own international career and how he comes to be doing something that’s completely outside of automotive now but where he feels very much in the right place.
