Christian retired in May 2020 from a long and distinguished career with BMW Group. His final role which he held for ten years was as Regional Manager EMEA, that's Europe, Middle East and Africa for BMW Group Financial Services.
Christian has the distinction of having worked during his career in every division of the BMW Group apart from Research and Development. He began his journey in HR, worked in the plant in Munich, spent time in Organisational strategy, moved into Sales, taking over as CEO of BMW and Rover in Sweden, headed up internal consulting, and set up the strategy department for BMW Financial Services before becoming the Regional Manager for Europe. After the financial crisis he stepped in as interim CEO for the UK.
Christian is incredibly well networked within BMW but also within his community where he has been an active member throughout his life. Now that he is retired he is able to devote more of his time to his community by supporting charities, coaching and getting involved in local politics.
In our conversation we talk about how his career journey saw him move across functions within the company, leveraging his people skills and emotional intelligence for mutual benefit.
Christian was the Regional Manager for Europe when I embarked on my international journey and became my mentor during my time overseas, which was a privilege for me. It's a huge pleasure for me to be able to share his career story with you and to introduce you to Christian in this episode. I'll be delighted to hear what thoughts and ideas it brings to mind for you.
This episode of Career-view Mirror is brought to you by Aquilae.
Aquilae exists to close the gap between actual performance and available performance in the mobility industry, internationally.
What do we mean by actual performance and available performance?
Every individual, every team, every organisation has a level of performance that is available to them right now and typically a lower level of performance that they are actually experiencing. We call the gap between the two levels of performance, the underperformance gap. Our Aquilae Performance Model recognises the four fundamental contributors to performance and helps you identify how to get closer to your available performance and close that underperformance gap.
