Dan Balmer's current role is President, Aston Martin Lagonda, UK Middle East and Africa
I am excited and proud to share Dan's career journey so far with you. Dan's story is wonderful in so many ways. He is one of those very lucky people who knew what he wanted to do from an early age and so with that focus and through hard work he has been able to pursue his entire career in the automotive world.
That has meant that he has covered an incredible amount of ground, both in terms of the roles and brands he's been involved in (Rover, Land Rover, BMW, MINI, Rolls Royce and Aston Martin) but also geographically. The extent of his experience is amplified by its depth and breadth. He has been involved at a granular level in vehicle design engineering and at a senior strategic level with global responsibility for marketing and regional responsibility for sales.
You will quickly, I'm sure, get the sense that he is passionate about our industry. He demonstrates humility. His confidence is genuine, built on years of being exposed to so many fascinating situations that have taught him so much. I hope that by listening to our conversation and maybe discussing with your colleagues and mentors, you will also be able to learn valuable lessons from Dan's experiences.
We have recently started breaking these long form podcasts into chapters, a bit like an audio book, to help you to get the most from all the material. The chapter functionality works on certain podcast streaming platforms, including Apple Podcasts.
Our conversation was recorded in one sitting on Sunday 28 February 2021. In it, Dan shares behind the scenes insights on a range of high profile topics related to the automotive industry like the development of the BMW MINI, the marriage and split of BMW and Rover, the launch of the Rolls Royce Phantom from when it was just known as "Project Rolls Royce" to conquering the west coast and the Far East, rebuilding the Aston Martin brand right up to the latest James Bond film and their brand new Formula one team. At the same time, Dan lets us into his thinking behind the decisions that have ultimately resulted in his amazing career and the impact that has had on his family along the way.
It is an extraordinary privilege to be able to share Dan's story with you. I hope you find it as fascinating and uplifting as I have.
