Dress to Impress
Whether you are a regular listener or viewer, or a relative newcomer to the podcast, this week’s episode is sure to be quite the treat, as the delightful and talented Tilly Burrows joins Drew and Sam for a chat. Tilly is a theatre professional and creative currently working in yet another field of the business that gets less coverage (excuse the slight pun!) than it deserves - it’s even a subject the Drewling Samantics boys haven’t really covered despite their many season of content!
Tilly is a dresser, and has worked for the past couple of years on the smash hit musical Hamilton. Her vital job includes making actors look good, expediting quick changes, and managing costume maintenance - and just in case any of her colleagues should be unavailable for whatever reason, she learns all the other dressers’ “tracks” as well! It’s safe to say it’s quite a unique role, and without her skill, and that of those working alongside her (and on many, many other productions), the actors would be pretty drab and well behind the action! A combination of infinite patience, good humour and stamina are just a few of the essential skills that Tilly has in abundance, then add to that her theatrical brain and extensive experience in multiple disciplines (despite being so young), and it’s no surprise she excels in her integral role within the backstage team.
So join Drew and Sam today, as they chat with another of the industry’s unseen, unsung, but essential cogs in the performance machine, and find out more about why Tilly is another fabulous guest whose invaluable contributions are appreciated by actors and audiences alike.
