Lead Pastor Connor Kraus continues our “Retold” summer message series with the story of the Tower of Babel. The narrative opens just after a series of genealogies that show that once again (despite God saving them from total destruction in the flood), humanity has turned away from the Creator. The people decided to build a tall tower to elevate their own greatness and, in their words, “make a name for ourselves.” The tower planners and builders rejected God and worshipped something false, not part of his plan. God stepped in to wipe out his beloved children’s hard-hearted and self-centered plans as he did with the flood. When we look at this story, we can take stock of the towers we’ve built in our own life. Whether rebellion is just in our hearts or whether we’re living it out, there’s no rebellion too fierce for God’s forgiveness. He desires relationship with us. He doesn’t want us to be far from him. But he wants the decision for obedience to be ours.
Connor stops by after the message to go a little deeper into the story of the Tower of Babel. Oh, and, Teresa has Jason guess the meaning of words in other languages.
