Today July 22nd, we celebrate the very special feast day of Saint Mary Magdalene. How wonderful and great were the holy women who were chosen I believe by God himself to remain by the side of our Lord. Mary Magdalene was one of those special women and today we get to remember her contributions to the faith. She was converted by Jesus and witnessed the last moments of Jesus. She is identified as the woman who had washed the feet of Jesus with her tears. What a moment that must have been for her to meet our Lord face to face and know who he was, and experience the history of our faith in real time. It had to have been so difficult to watch our Lord suffer so greatly for the sins of humanity. Emotions running high , the experience had to have been surreal. Mary of Magdala was chosen for a reason to be by the side of our Lord and his mother. I would imagine all the women present were very supportive becoming the strength of one another. After the resurrection of Jesus, he first appeared to Mary Magdalene and then to His apostles. Why was that? Our Lord must have had a really good reason. I believe it was her humility, and the love she showed Jesus as she washed his feet with her tears. That is so powerful. I can actually visualize the dirt on Jesus feet and the greatest outpouring of Mary Magdala's soul longing for the forgiveness of our Lord, and her tears streaming down her face and our Lord compassion filling her to the brim.
Like Mary Magdalene we are chosen by God to live a good Christian life. We may not always follow the rules, however, we sadly end up paying a high price. But we need to recognize the importance of rules that are put into place for our own personal good. And in order to live a life that is abundant in Christ, we have to be obedient to him, our self, and in the company of others. God according to my husband, is a God of order. And the older I get the more I realize God likes orderliness, and we should too. I can think more clearly when everything around me is in order. I have less stress because I keep everything neat and in tact. And to live this way is a good practice, knowing that we want to follow in the footsteps of God this way. And I know he approves because he is helping me daily, with my utmost cooperation I am slowly becoming more obedient to his ways. And that conversion deep inside of me is real and is growing and I am excited to be living this way, in Him. Let us remember everything God has done for us in our lifetime. Let us be great stewards of his loving company, and let us desire to always share in his glory and bring others into his company, through our prayers, our testimony, our good deeds, and I would suggest going as far as inviting others to mass, reconciliation, adoration chapel, all of the above count greatly, in the eyes of our Lord.
We need to share in the glorious riches of Him everyday and with everyone, we want to continue our great mission in bringing our message through the examples we set forth as Catholics in making this nation, once again, under one God, indivisible, and justice for all. We begin by being prayerful. We begin by speaking words from our heart to Jesus heart, and speaking that same way toward others. And today especially on this perfect of all feast days we remember Mary of Magdala and ask for her intercession and wait and anticipate experiencing that exact same joy she felt while at the sight of Jesus when he forgave her of her sin and she was renewed inside, that same gift of forgiveness is available to us by God through the power of the holy spirit working through a holy priest. If we desire to be forgiven we must trust and believe totally in the joyful hope and coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.
