Description

Students at the Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning crafted poppies to decorate the school’s walls as part of a day-long Veterans Day celebration that included patriotic programs and musical numbers, presentations from visiting dignitaries about service, sacrifice and civic duty, veterans and service members visiting classrooms, and a military vehicle display. Poppies symbolize remembrance and honor for military personnel who died in service. The tradition originates from World War I-era poem “In Flanders Fields.” The symbol was adopted by the American Legion Auxiliary in 1921 as the official memorial flower of the United States.
