Leaders of the Box Elder County Republican Party presented thousands of petition signatures to the school board last month, urging trustees to reconsider a property tax increase approved in August that raised the district’s levy by 36.6%. The board voted 5-1 after a five-hour Truth in Taxation hearing on Aug. 14, where more than 60 people spoke in front of an overflow crowd.
