There is one school from which you never graduate. That's the school of humility.
If only it were easy, it would probably be called something other than humility. Because of our nature, there is no other way. The Bible describes the ideal state of our spirit being like that of a weaned child. The child is not crying out afraid that its mother is not going to take care of it. The child is not fighting to meet its own needs in its own strength or efforts. Instead, the child quietly and patiently waits for its mother to give it whatever it needs. The child completely trusts its mother, even though it is totally dependent upon her.
Pride produces an arrogance within us that drives us further from the arms of God and into the realm of self-sufficiency which, ironically, always fails. When we are humble and remain humble, however, the Father graciously and lovingly provides for our every need.
