She reported domestic violence. An officer allegedly used police technology to help the relative she accused find her. How do you rebuild trust after something like that?
On this episode of Two Cops One Donut, I break down the reported San Jose Flock misuse case and explain why “we fired him” shouldn’t end the conversation. We discuss the difference between firing an officer, revoking police certification, and pursuing criminal charges, along with what meaningful oversight of license plate readers should look like.
Then we turn to Pittsburg, California, where police say two searches missed a concealed weapon before a different officer was wounded inside a booking facility. Was this a failure that training could correct, or should it end a career?
We finish with a Waymo ride that led to police responding and passengers being arrested. How private is a driverless ride, and what should companies tell you about what they can see?
Along the way, the audience challenges me on whether cops need to memorize laws, trespass warnings and ID, and whether people who finish a prison sentence ever really get a fresh start.
We call out bad police work, give credit where it’s earned, and leave room for disagreement. Bring your argument.
