I continue the last episode about trust. I really can say unequivocally that I believe this to be both the most important step and the most important gift that God gives us in these 12 steps. From this point on, it would be impossible for me to treat this program as a spiritual gift from God, if I am not able to view God as my Savior and mentor. Hey, I am literally making a decision to turn everything over to Him. As the step says, “I made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God”. I how much trust does that imply? I’m sure you figured it out, but it really implies total trust!
Here is the best definition I have been able to find that works for our purposes, of trust: a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength in of someone or something [God].
For me, the biggest enemy of trusting someone or something outside of myself, is my ego, along with its pal, rationalization. However, I know that as long as I am able to listen earnestly and honestly, and trust that I will never get a better solution from anywhere or anything that I will from my Spirit. It is imperative that in doing this third step I ask God to give me the gift of Trust!
