[On trying harder] during my group coaching call today we called out a familiar villain.
The phrase that has been beaten into us that promised to be the answer to all of our problems...
Try harder.
This is what we were told to do anytime we couldn't find a solution. Anytime it wasn't working as we planned. Anytime our heart was breaking. Anytime it was all falling apart.
Try harder.
But trying harder is a loosing game.
Trying harder is a direct path to burnout, as Price Pritchett says in You².
Trying harder instantly shouts "I believe there is no possibility of any other solution!"
Because the solution is actually easy and feels delightful.
Its not a struggle or painful.
The solution is windy and free.
She is dressed in @crocs and has bought you your favorite latte.
[Breakthrough for someone] Trying harder means you'll do more of the same thing, that's all. And let me ask you...how has your current plan been going?
Trying harder means you'll be in the same spot as you are now, just more tired.
What if the change you wanted to experience was on the other side of ease?
What if the freedom you want so badly to hold was in the other side of the 180° turn?
Because the opposite of what you're doing right now, will feel so delightful and refined, you will be wondering why you didn't make that decision years ago.
Stop trying harder.
Stop repeating your efforts expecting different results and burning yourself out in the process.
Instead, stop. Turn. Look in a new direction. Try the thing you said you'd never do. Talk to the people you said you'd never be in a room with. Do the exercises that you've never identified with.
Because those are the 180° turns that will absolutely bring you, not only your solution, but joy and ease too.
