John picks the material he uses so that we get to know Jesus-we see hispower, his compassion—that he was the Son of God. However, he wants us to get acquainted with Jesus’ enemies—the ones who killed him. Jesus’ enemies saw him as a problem—a serious problem that if left alone would rob them of their place in Jewish society.
