The disciples had received some sobering news from Jesus—that they would face trials and even persecution. This would happen because they were his followers. But then he gave them some good news of the coming of the Holy Spirit who would be their advocate. First the Comforter’s ministry would be to them to comfort and guide them but at the same time he would minister to the world through them. It was a sobering thought to think that the Holy Spirit would work in the world through them to accomplish his work.
