A great teacher aims to not just give information like a vending machine. He or she doesn’t just talk or give lectures but creates new ways for people to discover the truth and think of it as their own. Truth always has so much more power when we find it on our own than when someone tells us. There were times that Jesus did this by deliberately setting his disciples up so they would have to use every bit of creativity to discover the solution to the problem. In Matthew 15, Jesus takes his disciples on a missions trip. He is about to introduce his disciples to a Gentile woman and not just any Gentile woman but a Canaanite woman. The worst of the worst. To Jesus she is a brokenhearted mother but to the disciples she is simply a Canaanite.
