Description

Menstrual shame can be unwillingly perpetuated by those around us, which for children, includes friends, family, school peers and teachers, and our cultural programming.

When its difficult for children to have open conversations, ask questions and seek support from their girlfriends and the adults who are tasked with teaching them about periods and puberty, its no surprise that children quiet, internalise the shame, and don't ask for help or share their experience. They can learn that periods are secret business, its nothing special, or worse, a curse that they must suffer in silence with. And certainly something not to bring up in the classroom.

Today's guest is on a mission to change all that herself, through her beautiful Sisterhood Circles for girls and women, and her First Moon Circle work. Stacey Eifermann is a woman, mother of two, a wife, school teacher, youth mentor, Certified First Moon Circle Facilitator, and founder of Red Sisters based in Melbourne Australia. She has worked in schools with children in Australia and overseas and sees firsthand how children, just like women, need the power of sisterhood support to normalise period positivity.

In this episode we chat about how sharing empowering menstrual education to whole friendship groups and classmates creates powerful change culturally and personally for children to feel more period positive than before. As ever, Sisterhood is the answer in fighting menstrual shame.
