Love to hear from and know who is listening
The story of Jesus kneeling to the floor and washing his disciples feet so they could dine together is one of the most profound pictures of our Savior’s love for us! Jesus cared so much about the details of his disciples lives, that He was willing to get messy to reach, teach, and show His love to the disciples, and this is still true today!!! Jesus cares about even the smallest details of your life and is willing to get messy to show you, that you are loved. None of your fears are too small, needs too silly, or stresses too insignificant, that God does not care about them. He cares about it all… even our stinky feet!
Feet washing was a necessary activity during the disciples time. When gathering to have a meal they would come in with their feet dust-covered, dirty, sweaty and stinky from walking the dirt roads. Cleaning of the feet would have been necessary because the group would have been reclining together at a low table and dirty, stinky feet would not be welcomed so close to their meal.
John 13: 6-9 NIV He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
Peter was so zealous in his faith that he wanted Jesus to wash him from his head to his toes. Peter wanted to be completely cleansed. Once you place your faith in Jesus and ask him to forgive you of your sins you are completely forgiven. The Scriptures say that God will forgive our sins as far as the east is from the west. However, we all live and walk in a fallen world and we wade in sins daily. As I go about my daily routine I catch myself having a fit of road rage at the idiot in front of me that is sitting at the green light and not paying attention. I find myself looking a bit to long and the pretty young woman at the store. I catch myself laughing at the inappropriate jokes told at my work place when I should not be. For all the times I fail daily, I need to get on my knees and ask Jesus to forgive me and strengthen me so don't fall into sin again. I walk in a dirty fallen world daily and need my feet cleansed so that I can better serve Jesus Christ.
John 13: 10 NIV Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean...
It was the servant of a household's job to wash the feet of incoming guests. This selfless act displayed Jesus’ amazing humility! He took the role of a servant to wash the dusty and dirt-covered feet of his disciples. Jesus was setting an incredible example of what it is to be “Christ-like” through his humble actions. Status, pride, or even dirt did not stop him from rolling up his sleeves to serve the men who had been at his side throughout the duration of his ministry. Jesus’ actions set an example of what it means to imitate him with our lives. We are called to be the servant of others, to live with humility, and love in every situation!
John 13: 14-15 NIV Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.
Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and get dirty, to humbly serve, to be the servant of others, to live with humility, and love in every situation!!!
