Love to hear from and know who is listening

When I was young I would get up on Saturday morning and watch cartoons for the majority of the morning. On of my favorite cartoons was the Justice League. The Justice League featured Batman & Robin, the Flash, Green Lantern, Aqua-man, Wonder Woman and Superman. Superman of course was my favorite. By day Superman took on the identity of Clark Kent who was a near sighted reporter who never seemed to quite get it right, but when the evil villain put innocent citizens in danger Clark would slip around the corner into a phone booth and out would come Superman to save the day! Superman seemed to be invincible. He was faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane.... No it's Superman! My question to you is this, does your Christian faith more closely resemble the near sighted bumbling Clark Kent or are you a “Super Saint?” Do you think it is possible to be a “Super Saint?”

Matthew 19:26 ESV But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

This phrase, “With God all things are possible, speaks of God’s omnipotence, his absolute power to do what he pleases. It’s a theme that is echoed all throughout the bible. When Sarah and Abraham doubted God’s promise to give them a son, God said, “Is anything too hard for the LORD?” Genesis 18:14. When God displayed his absolute sovereignty to Job in his distress, Job replied, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted” Job 42:2. Jesus himself, when he prayed to his Father in the garden before he was crucified, cried out, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you.” Mark 14:36. The phrase, “with God all things are possible,” proclaims the absolute sovereignty and uncontested power of God. If you have absolutely no doubt, if you have complete faith, nothing is impossible, You could be a Super Saint! You could move mountains.

Matthew 17: 20-21 ESV He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

But even the disciples, those who were closest to Jesus, who witnessed first hand his miracles, still lacked faith at times. When a young boy with a demon was brought to them they were unable to cast it out. So his father brought him to Jesus and said “Sir, have mercy on my son, for he is mentally deranged and in great trouble, he often falls into the fire or into the water; so I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t cure him.” Jesus replied, “Oh, you stubborn, faithless people! How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me.” Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy. Even those closest to Jesus failed at times for all of us are human and we all fall short of the glory of God! Is it possible to be a “Super Saint?” Is there a moral of the story of Superman? I believe there is. We must learn to live with the fact that we can't save everyone. If you let the weight of all those you are unable to save rest directly on your shoulders it will crush you! Your child may be far from God. Someone you love maybe on the wrong path in life, a path that leads to destruction! But don't ever give up! Be a “Super Saint!” Pray earnestly for the lost! Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face and the things of Earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.

Psalm 123:1 ESV To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
