In honor of the 3rd anniversary of October 7th, 2023, Rabbi Pont sat down with lone soldier, Ira Kohler, at Marlboro Jewish Center. At the age of 21, Ira left his family in New York, moved to Israel, and enlisted in the 890th Battalion of the Paratrooper Brigade. Ira had longed to serve in the IDF but nothing could have prepared him for what was going to happen on October 7th to himself, his friends, and his community in Israel and back home in America.
This wide-ranging conversation about Ira's journey, his friend Omar Neutra, z"l, and his new book Once a Paratrooper is a great way to commemorate one of the darkest days the Jewish people have ever seen.
