John 18:1f
Who do you draw strength from to get through trials of this life, friends, spiritual leaders, authorities? Careful those are the ones you will blame for your failures, instead of yourself. 1 Corinthians 9:24; Galatians 6:2,5 Jesus is victorious through all the disappointments He encounters because He doesn’t draw strength from men but relies fully on His Father to see Him through and no one else. John 16:32-33 It’s all about the finish, not the start, one needs to finish the race, to hear, Matthew 25:23; no excuses.
John 18:1 – 19:15; Arrest & Trials of Jesus - 7 Disappointments from men to suffer before His death.
1. Judas – close friend from His table, treasurer, vs.6 they fell down John 18:1-6
2. Disciples - all His close friends desert Him John 18:7-9
3. Peter - His most influential apostle – denies Him 3x John 18:15-18; 25-27
4. Annas - richest Jew in the land, no questions about Jesus John 18:10-14; 19-24
5. Caiaphas - highest spiritual authority - predetermined the execution John 18:14,24,28
6. Chief Priests – representatives of Jewish nation John 18:30,31; 40; 19:6,7;12,15
7. Pilate - highest legal authority in the land John 18:28 – 19:15;
Questions Jesus 3x – I find no guilt in Him 3x
Tries to release Jesus but they asked for Barabbas.
Scourges Jesus to stir sympathy from the chief priests, to no avail. Crucify!
Tries to release Jesus but accused of being no friend of Caesar.
Finally – shall I crucify your King? We have no king but Caesar!
Handed Jesus over to be crucified.
Jesus should have quit, IF He was counting on men to get Him through, but He relied on His Father. Lesson for us – you are responsible for your actions, to finish your race, others may help but always be prepared to be let down because they are men, always lean on God to see you through, no excuses. It’s not how well you started the race, it is how well you finish. Well done, good and faithful servant!
