What makes us so different from the rest of the religious world?
Is it our name? Christian? Disciples? Nope others use them as well
Is it our building – a church? All Christians seem to have a church – so no
Is it our Authority? All Christians have a Bible – so no Well then
Is it celebrating weekly communion? No – a few others do, but not many
Is it Accapella singing? Few as well sing Accapella – Greek Orthodox
Is it being Autonomous? Quite a few are becoming autonomous No?
Then what makes us different from religious societies or believers?
Romans 8:9-11; How can you know you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? 1 John.5:13; 2:26-27
Some examples of being anointed from the Old Testament:
God had the priests anointed for service – Exodus 28:41-43
God had the Kings anointed for service – 1 Samuel 10:1,6,10; 15:18-23,32-33; Leviticus 10:1f; 1 Samuel 16:1,7,12-14
God had prophets anointed for service – 1 Kings 19:16; 2 Kings 2:14
Specific moment in time, physical action with spiritual gift, the Holy Spirit, dedicated for service to God
From the New Testament what do we see:
Jesus being anointed – Matthew 3:16-17;4:17; Acts 10:37-38; John 1:33
When did the anointing happen to us? Acts 2:37-39; 9:6,17-19; Matthew 28:19-20
Christ – CHRISTOS = Anointed One
Christians – CHRISTIANOS = anointed ones
High Priest – Hebrews 3:1; 5:5-10
Priests 1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6
Comfort Hebrews 4:15
Eternal King – John 18:37; 1 Timothy 1;7; Revelation 19:16; Kings – 1 Corinthians 4:8;
Revelation 2:26-27; 4:4; Lead Authority Acts 19:1-6
Prophet – Acts 3:22-23; John 12:47-50; John 5:39
Prophets –1 Peter 4:11; 2 Corinthians 5:20
Teach - Matthew 28:19-20
We are the assembly of the Anointed One! – those who were baptized for the forgiveness of their sins and who have received from Christ the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, our Anointing!
We are different because we are blessed to have the Holy Sprit living within us. Ephesians 1:13-14 1 Peter 3:21; because of our baptism we have the Holy Spirit which cleanses us daily 1 John 1:6-8; Titus 3:5-6; 2 Corinthians 5:17
