Abram is in the land of promise. In obedience he has come to the land. God has made an amazing covenant with Abram. An unconditional promise. Abram has pitched his tent and built his alter. He is now at a spiritual high point.
It is now that Abram will enter the furnace of testing. As it has been said, a faith that is not tested is a faith that cannot be trusted. Faith is not faith until it looks into the face of the impossible and believes steadfastly that with God all things are possible.
Abram fails the test, but with God, there is always opportunity for a new beginning. God delights in mercy. He loves the backslider. God graciously allows Abram to return and repent. In so doing, God brings revival into the heart of Abram
