We continue this great passage that runs from Isaiah 52:13 through Isaiah 54:12. This along with Psalms 22 gives such a clear picture of the work of Christ at Calvary. This passage as the heart of the gospel in the Old Testament.
As we come to these next few verses, I refer to them as the heart of the heart. These verses show us so clearly that all sin, iniquity and transgression lead to wounds and bruises, to a deserved punishment. And yet it was our sin, our iniquity, our transgression that all fell on Jesus. Jesus was wounded, pierced, bruised and crushed for our sin, iniquity and transgression. Here we have one of the clearest presentations of the vicarious suffering of Jesus in all the scriptures.
As we look at this passage, may we all truly know Jesus. You cannot know Jesus glorified until first seen Him crucified. Have you seen Jesus crucified? Do you know Jesus glorified? Do you truly know Jesus?
