We now see God's response to the beautiful prayer that Isaiah gave on behalf of the nation of Israel.  Remember, no matter how wonderful and powerful a prayer sounds to men, God knows the character and intent behind the prayer. Isaiah was sincere yet the vast majority of the Israel was insincere.

God answers prayer in righteousness according to His Holy character and for His glory alone!

The answer before us summarizes the book of Isaiah. The LORD had constantly presented His love to Israel which they continually rejected. Thus, God's judgment was necessary. Yet within the vast majority of rebellious and evil Israel, there was a remnant that God would preserve.

God makes clear the difference between the way the rebellious, evil apostates live and how the righteous remnant lives. God sees and knows the difference. Furthermore, there are consequences for both. The rebellious, evil apostates will face severe eternal judgment.  But for righteous remnant, their consequences will be glorious as Jesus returns to establish His kingdom for a thousand years. After that, a new heaven and a new earth will be ushered in.

In all of this and throughout the entire book of Isaiah, there is a pleading for the people to place their trust in the LORD and to live righteously. God has not changed. That plea is being made to us today. Are we living for Jesus? Are we living in all out obedience to Jesus Christ and His word? Do we truly seek the LORD?
