We now conclude our study in the book of Jonah. He is a character through whom much can be learned. He was a reluctant prophet of God. Jonah was disobedient to a clear direct command from God simply because he hated the people that God was sending him to. Although corrected through severe chastisement, he still did not have God's heart for the lost.
It is easy to be critical of Jonah, yet we are all capable of acting exactly like Jonah. A quote from Warren Wiersbe says it best. "When reputation is more important than character and pleasing ourselves and our friends is more important than pleasing God, than we are in danger of becoming like Jonah and living to defend our prejudices instead of fulfilling our spiritual responsibilities."
