In this podcast Dr. Rodney and Karen talk about their recent experience based on returning to a happy childhood memory. They explore the depths of savoring that experience.

To savor is to appreciate and experience delight in the positive experiences of your life. You are mindful of the amazing gift of life and maximize your presence in every single minute.

Before you savor you must be able to…

Telling your story
Past
Remembering the past - fun time in the snow as a child - cross-country skiing

Present
Being in the moment - slowing down to enjoy every bite of food

Future
Anticipation of a trip or a vacation

Types of savoring
1. Experiences
This is the overview of the experience with the intention of focusing all your attention on appreciating positive events. As you are immersed in the experience you need to include sensations (such as the breeze on your face), emotions (what you felt), perceptions (what this means to you), thoughts (your thinking), and behaviors (what you do with this information).

2. Processes
This requires you to trust the process of connecting the events with the positive emotions coming from what just happened. For example when you help a stranger, you recall the positive emotions felt while participating in that activity.

3. Responses
Your response to the positive events of your life results in specific thoughts or behaviors will have a long-lasting effect. Your response either dampens or amplifies the intensity and duration of your positive emotions.

In our next podcast, we discuss specific ways and activities to encourage savoring.
