Commitment is an interesting word. It's something we can all agree is a good trait to possess. In theory, we all want to be committed. But how do you actually take steps to develop commitment in your life, much less in an entire group of people so that it becomes an engrained part of their culture?
In Nehemiah, we see the establishment of 6 covenants to which the Israelites chose to commit themselves. The tenth chapter ends by saying, "We promise together not to neglect the Temple of our God." These 6 principles were of utmost priority to them and so every person and family became willing to do their part to maintain the Temple and their way of life.
So what does that mean for us in our modern context? Do these Old Testament principles still have a relevant impact on our lives, our churches, or our society today? What is the significance of this list for us on the other side of the Resurrection?
That's what we're talking about in this week's episode of Monday Moments!
