Salvation without the relationship is just religion. Sadly, religion doesn't equip us to withstand the hardships that life brings or the persecution that the Bible promises will come.
So then what makes the difference? The answer is a relationship with God and trustworthy people. This approach often challenges the way we engage scripture, but it's the best way.
Approaching scripture with a mindset of "a list of right and wrong," a "theological dictionary," or a "devotional grab-bag," will leave us ill-equipped to face challenges, persecution, and the big questions we ask ourselves or get asked by others.
