When something is built to a basic level of function, you might be tempted to think it's good enough. After all, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unfortunately that mindset can carry over into our spiritual lives as well which, in turn, affects our day-to-day living.
It's true that when furniture is built well and functioning as it should, it has a certain amount of value. The difference in value between furniture that is functioning at a basic level and furniture that is not only functioning but also finished is staggering. They may perform similarly, but the finished product is far more valuable and desirable.
So what is the finishing touch in God's Kingdom? It's not a secret. In fact it's the very reason God sent Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul wrote explicitly about it in 1 Corinthians 13. It's what Jesus said upholds the entire law of Moses and the prophets. It's love. Love is the finishing touch that without it, makes all we do a cacophony of noise and discord.
